Just in case you missed us on the BBC…
Just in case you missed our celebrity appearance on the popular BBC food programme ‘Great British Bake Off’ (GBBO) last summer, we thought you might like to see our few minutes of fame with our own David Antonelli (Production Director) starring alongside GBBO presenter Sue Perkins.
The clip shows David demonstrating how cones used to be made many decades ago when cones were first invented. Now, at The Bakery we produce over a million cones a week so we need a slighter faster method! However with over 100 years in the industry (not David or his brother & co-owner Mark; but their ancestors!) who else were the BBC going to turn to for a bit of ice cream cone history?
Sue Perkins spent the day at The Bakery and enjoyed learning about our baking processes. In the programme David explains to Sue the traditional way that ice cream cones used to be made. Sue proclaims the ice cream cone as the 'unsung hero of the seaside'.
Thanks to the BBC for donating the footage.
Ambassadors for the Industry
As the leading manufacturer of the widest selection of ice cream cones in the UK, Antonelli were pleased to be ambassadors for the ice cream industry. “It was exciting to be included on such a popular show” explained David Antonelli, “Sue seemed genuinely interested in our cones and how they were made and spent a long time looking around our production facility.” Everybody can relate to ice cream - it is quintessential icon of British summer and sunshine or in Sue’s words ‘the unsung hero of the seaside’. Interestingly these days the seaside does not need to be part of the ice cream equation, with many of our customers running successful parlours and gelaterias in town and city centres across the UK.
The Smoothy® Twist® featured in this recording is one of the waffle cones in a whole family of Antonelli Smoothy® cones, which all can come dipped in chocolate and also can be decorated with a range of toppings. Uniquely in the UK these are all manufactured on site at the Eccles Bakery. For more information go to our products page and look for Smoothy® Cones, Decorated Cones or Dipped Cones.
